Cutters

Cutters are used to cut larger printing surfaces into smaller ones, cut large stacks of paper and straighten the edges of the surfaces.  There are many types of cutters on the market and we have listed some of them below.

Cutting Mats

A cutting mat is a mat that is used for protecting the surface you are cutting on as well as to help you measure what you are cutting.  Generally a cutting mat is a flat rectangular piece of durable material like vinyl or rubber.  One side of the cutting mat generally has a grid on it with a specific measurement ranging from ¼ to 1 inch.  Cutting mats help you make a clean straight cut.  Some cutting mats are available in self-healing which means that they absorb small nicks and cuts to survive multiple uses.

Digital Die

Digital dies are used for more complex cutting.  With a digital die you can set it to cut out any shape or size in a uniform manner.  The digital die can be used on various materials to provide accurate and uniformity throughout the whole job.  Digital Die cutters come with different functions so read the descriptions and capabilities carefully so that you choose the one that is right for you.

Panel Saw

Panel saws are a type of sawing machine use to cut through a variety of materials from woods, aluminum, plastic to large stacks of paper.  Panel saws are available in two types: vertical and horizontal.  Some higher end panel saws feature computer controls to allow the blade to be moved in preset values.  Lower end machines are more basic and easier to use.  Vertical saws are use when you want to save on space since they stand upright.  Horizontal saws have some capabilities that vertical ones don’t have.  When picking a panel saw you will need to take into consideration what you want to do with it, how much space you have and how much you are willing to spend.

Table Saw

A table saw or sawbench is a versatile tool for cutting.  They usually consist of a circular saw mounted on an arbour which is driven by an electric motor.  These types of cutters are used to cut harder materials in larger quantities like stacks of cardboard.  Table saws can be dangerous if the proper safety equipment and precautions are not taken.  Please ensure that this is the correct type of cutter for you, that you know how to use one while keeping safe before purchasing one.

Guillotine

Manual paper cutters include guillotine paper cutters or stack cutters.  They are common in offices, print shops and schools. A guillotine paper cutter can cut through 10 to 50 sheets of paper in one shot. Guillotine paper cutters are affordable and very easy to use to achieve an accurate and professional cutting. A ream cutter,  also referred to as a stack paper cutter, is good for high volume or heavy duty paper cutting jobs since they can easily cutting through a stack of 200 to 800 sheets of paper at once.

Saw Blades

Saw blades come in a variety of types and sizes.   The main thing you will want to look at when selecting the proper saw blade for your job are the teeth, size, points per inch, teeth per inch and kerf.  You will need to ensure that the blade you select will fit in the saw that you own.
