Dye sublimation printers use heat to affix dye onto the surface of paper, plastic cards and fabric. Dye sublimation printers are generally computer printers. The dye is transferred from a solid state to a gas state without ever going through a liquid stage. Many places such as photo finishing labs, medical imaging, security and graphic arts proofing use dye sublimation printers a lot. The colours are laid onto cellophane ribbons; each on a separate ribbon creating a separate panel. The ribbons are placed on the media, one at a time, and passed through a thermal head that lays a specific amount of dye based on the heat applied in the various areas. The media is passed through 4 times, 3 times for colour and 1 for a final lamination stage. Please ensure to read all the instructions that come with your printer to ensure that you are purchasing the proper supplies for it as well as to ensure that you are using it correctly.
